Privacy Policy

Last updated September 18, 2026

Future You is designed around a simple principle: your financial data belongs to you. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we keep it safe.

Information we collect

Manual mode

When you use the app without connecting a bank, all data — your balance, bills, income, and preferences — is stored locally on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers.

Bank-connected mode

When you connect your bank through Plaid, we receive read-only account information, balances, transactions, and, when supported by your institution, liability details such as credit-card balances, payment amounts, and due dates. We use this information to calculate Safe to Spend, identify deposits and recurring bills, provide spending insights, and suggest debts you may choose to track. We never receive, store, or have access to your banking credentials (username or password).

Device identifiers

We generate a random device identifier stored on your device to associate your bank connection with your app session. This identifier contains no personal information.

How we use your data

Your data is used solely to power the features you use:

  • Calculating your daily Safe to Spend amount
  • Tracking recurring bills and payment schedules
  • Showing your current account balance

We do not sell, rent, or monetize your data, and we do not use it for advertising. We share information with another Future You user only when you explicitly choose to share a commitment or pay timing through a household plan.

Household plans and information sharing

Household plans are optional. Only people invited to the household can view its shared plan, and an invitation can be accepted only by a signed-in account using the invited email address.

  • Only bills, debt commitments, and pay timing that you explicitly choose are shared.
  • Your bank balances, bank connections, transaction history, deposit history, Plaid credentials, income history, and debts you have not shared remain private.
  • Self-employed deposit activity remains private and is used only for your own Safe to Spend experience.
  • You can stop sharing a commitment or pay timing. Household owners can revoke pending invitations and remove members.

Data storage and security

Account and bank-connected data is stored in a secured database and associated with your authenticated account. Plaid access tokens are encrypted at rest, and data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. Household members receive only the information you choose to share as described above. We retain your data only as long as your account is active. You can disconnect a bank or delete your account from Profile settings.

Third-party services

Plaid

Bank connections are powered by Plaid Technologies, Inc. When you connect your bank, you interact directly with Plaid's secure interface. Plaid's Privacy Policy is available at plaid.com/legal.

Your rights

You can:

  • View all data stored about you within the app
  • Delete your bank connection and all associated data from Profile settings
  • Stop sharing household commitments or pay timing and leave or manage a household
  • Request a copy or deletion of your data by contacting us

Children's privacy

Future You is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll note the date of the last update at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
